Frequently Asked Questions
Q1. So I'm only going to pay the parents contribution amount?
A1. Yes.
Q2. What's the funding program called?
A2. It is Universal Childcare Funding by Yukon Gov. (Department of Education)
Q3. Will funding be provided when a child is absent?
A3. Funding will be available during both voluntary and non-voluntary abcenses(e.g., family vacation, sickness, medical travel, bereavement, First Nations harvesting and cultural activities). Parents will be charged a fee(parent contribution) regardless of whether or not a child is in attendance.
Q4. Will the funding be available for an extended absence?
A4. No, the funding will not be granted in cases where families are paying to 'save a space' for an extended period of time when the space could otherwise be occupied by an attending child.
Q5. What is considered an extended absence?
A5. An extended absence is considered to be a voluntary absence of longer than four(4) consecutive weeks.
Q6. Can parents pay the full fee to reserve a space in case of an extended absence?
A6. Families retain the option of paying the full fee directly to the operator or withdrawing and reapplying for enrollment in these circumstances.
Q7. Why does S.A parent pay slightly more than K.G?
A7. It's because our program takes K.G and S.A together and it subsequently reduces S.A's staff-child ratio to K.G's.
Q8. Do I need to apply for this funding monthly or is it automatic?
A8. It's automatic.
Q9. Is this same with subsidy program?
A9. No, this is different from subsidy program. The subsidy program stays the same and will cover portion of the reduced parents contribution amount in case of low household income. It's the same process: parents need to contact ELCC for eligibility check and fill out a monthly application after approved.
Q10. Is there no drop-in program?
A10. No, there isn't.
